Types of Warrants in Clark County

How you clear a warrant depends on what type it is and which court issued it.

Warrants in Nevada don’t expire. Even an old one can get you arrested at a traffic stop.

How to Check If You Have a Warrant in Clark County

Each court in Clark County keeps its own records. Check the ones that might have your case, such as:

●      Las Vegas Municipal Court: online warrant search for city misdemeanors and traffic cases.

●      Las Vegas Justice Court / Clark County courts: the Clark County online case search.

●      Henderson Municipal and Justice Courts: Henderson publishes its own warrant lists.

●      North Las Vegas Municipal Court: online warrant search, or call (702) 633-1130.

Online records aren’t always up to date. A lawyer can check for you, so you don’t have to go to a courthouse.

4 Ways to Clear a Warrant in Clark County

There are four common ways to resolve an open warrant. The best option depends on your court and your charge.

1. File a motion to quash the warrant

This means asking the judge to cancel the warrant. You’ll usually get a new court date. For Las Vegas Justice Court, you can file in person at the Regional Justice Center (200 Lewis Ave., 1st floor).

Judges are more likely to agree if you can provide a good reason for missing court. For example, you never received notice of the court date, or you were in the hospital.

2. Pay the fine or bail amount

For many traffic and minor cases, paying what you owe the court clears the warrant or gets you a new court date. Some courts, like North Las Vegas Municipal Court, also offer payment plans.

3. Have an attorney appear for you

For many minor cases, a Nevada lawyer can go to court for you. You may not have to show up at all.

4. Arrange a planned surrender (“walk-through”)

For serious charges, your lawyer can set a time for you to turn yourself in. They can also ask for lower bail first. It’s much better than being arrested at work or at home.

Important: Filing a motion doesn’t cancel the warrant right away. You could still be arrested until the judge grants the motion and officially rescinds the warrant.

Don’t Live in Las Vegas? You Can Still Clear Your Warrant

Many visitors leave Las Vegas with a ticket and forget about it. Later, it turns into a warrant that shows up back home.

You usually don’t need to fly back. For most minor cases, a local lawyer can handle everything for you. If you live outside Clark County, you can also call the Justice Court coordinator at (702) 671-3803.

Licensed in both Nevada and Illinois, The Walsh Firm has offices in Las Vegas and near Chicago.

What Happens If You Ignore a Warrant?

A warrant won’t go away by itself. Ignoring it can lead to:

●      Arrest at any time, even at a routine traffic stop.

●      A new charge for failing to show up to court.

●      Fewer options, because judges are less forgiving after an arrest.

●      Trouble with background checks for jobs and housing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do warrants expire in Nevada?

No. Bench warrants and arrest warrants in Nevada stay active until a judge recalls them or you are arrested.

Can I clear a warrant without going to jail?

Often, yes. Many minor warrants can be cleared by paying the fine or having a lawyer handle it.

Can a lawyer clear my warrant without me being there?

For many minor cases, yes. For felonies, you’ll usually need to appear, but a lawyer can set up a safe surrender.

How long does it take to clear a warrant in Las Vegas?

Some take just a day. Others take until the next court date, which may be days or weeks away.

How do I find out which court issued my warrant?

Check each court’s website, or have a lawyer check them all for you.

I got a ticket in Las Vegas but live out of state. What should I do?

Don’t ignore it. A Las Vegas attorney can usually resolve the ticket, or the warrant it turned into, without you traveling back to Nevada.
